How it works

From sign-up to walk day on the same afternoon.

We built this around how a small charity actually plans a one-day walkathon — not around an idealised “onboarding funnel”.

  1. Set up your campaign in five minutes

Charity name, colours, event date, fundraising target. Drop in a GoFundMe or JustGiving link and we pull your total automatically. Pay the £5 token fee with any card — Stripe picks the currency.

  2. Share a slug, a QR code, a 3-word key

Print posters with the slug. Hand round share keys at the start line. Walkers sign up on their own phones — no app, no account, no fuss. Multiple walkers per device, if it’s a family.

  3. Watch the leaderboard come alive

Steps appear in real time. Sponsors send kudos hearts. Teams climb the standings. Your fundraising total ticks up on the same page. After the day, archive in a click.

What walkers + sponsors see

One page. Built to last a single, brilliant day.

░ Real-time leaderboard

Steps appear the moment a walker logs them.

Sort by individual or team. Sponsors refresh and see their friend climb. Quiet competitive energy is the best fundraiser there is.

░ Kudos hearts

A tap from a sponsor goes straight to a walker.

No accounts, no donations to chase. Just hearts piling up next to your name as friends find your page.

░ Team standings

Office vs office. School vs school.

Optional team field on sign-up. Leaderboards split automatically. We’ve watched a finance team turn this into a six-month feud.

░ Fundraising sync

Paste a URL. Your fundraising total appears.

Works with GoFundMe and JustGiving. We refresh your total every morning, or on demand. No keys, no integrations, no webhook to wire up.

░ Accessible by default

WCAG 2.2 AAA target. Tested every release.

7:1 contrast. Reduced-motion honoured. Full keyboard paths. Real screen-reader passes — not just “Lighthouse said it was fine”.

░ Share keys + QR codes

A 3-word key your nan can type.

Print posters. Stick a QR on the back of a hi-vis. Pass the share key round the start line. No accounts, no apps.

Pricing, written plainly

One charity. One day. One £5.

Not £5 a month. Not £5 a walker. Not a free trial that turns into £5 a month. You pay £5 to start a campaign, your walkers walk, your sponsors send hearts, and that’s the lot. Stripe picks £/$/€ from your card.

Change your mind within two weeks? Refund. We’ll delete the campaign and your £5 / $5 / €5 lands back where it came from. After 14 days the campaign is yours, properly.

On the £5

Why we charge anything at all.

Two reasons, and we’d rather tell you both than pretend the answer is “platform fees”. £5 is a token amount — not a profit centre.

  1. It keeps the lights on.

Hosting, email delivery, Stripe’s cut, daily backups, the time it takes to keep Walkathon accessible and secure. £5 covers our costs with a little left over — and means we’ll never need to sell your data, run ads, or hide features behind an “enterprise tier”.

  2. It keeps the fakes out.

A self-serve fundraising tool with no payment gate is a magnet for scammers setting up fake charity pages. A £5 hurdle — small enough that any real charity can absorb it, refundable for 14 days if it doesn’t suit — filters out the drive-by impersonators almost entirely.

If £5 is genuinely a barrier for your cause, get in touch — we’ll waive it. That’s the point of a token, not a tax.
